課程概述

流行病學實例研究 (碩班)、流行病學實例研究一 (博一)、流行病學實例研究二 (博二)

本課程透過閱讀、報告與討論教師指定的原著論文,建立學生對於文獻具批判性的深入瞭解,增進知識深度,另外也透過接觸不同領域研究的最新進展增進知識廣度,了解全球大趨勢。每位碩班同學需口頭報告二次,訓練深度閱讀及條理清晰、要點凸顯和台風穩健的學術表達能力。所要報告的論文在第一循環是由指導教師指定,第二循環則以隨機抽籤方式決定(不同領域論文優先,如已無不同領域論文則抽籤非自己指導教授提供之選讀論文)。碩班同學報告時間三人報告時為25分鐘,四人報告時則為18分鐘,然後由博班同學評論報告內容,評論及討論時間為10-15分鐘。每位博班同學上台辯論1次,辯論題目由同學諮詢指導老師後自行選定,以能夠引發熱烈討論的題目較佳。辯論目的在培養同學就事論事,憑證據說話的素養,以科學求真求實態度透明檢驗一個議題的正反觀點。正反方報告各 25分鐘,提問及回答各約 10-15 分鐘。三人組:一人主持辯論及做Introduction與最後conclusion,正反方各一人。四人組:一人主持及做Introduction,正反方各一人,第四人做結論。

關於語言:
本課程鼓勵同學報告及評論時使用英語,但不強制。如果無法用英語充分表達,可以使用國語。是否使用英語不影響成績評定。

Case Study in Epidemiologic Research (Master class), Case Study in Epidemiologic Research 1 (PhD 1st year class), Case Study in Epidemiologic Research 2 (PhD 2nd year class)

This course requires students to read, present, and comment on research papers designated by teachers. This course aims to help the students to build up the competency to read scientific literature, and to participate the discussion on the latest advances reported by global scientific communities. Each Master student presents twice. The first paper will be assigned by his/her advisor, and the second paper will be randomly assigned. The time for each presentation is 25 minutes (3-student session) or 18 minutes (4-students session). PhD students make comments on papers presented by Master students. The time for comment and group discussion is 10-15 minutes. Each PhD student participates debate once. The subject of debate is chosen by the students after consulting the advisor. The purpose of the debate is to help students to master the skill to examine the pros and cons of a subject from scientific evidence. Both sides have 25 minutes for main presentation, 10-15 minutes for questions and answers. For a 3-person group, student A introduces the subject and makes the conclusion remark, student B advocates the affirmative view, and student C advocates the opposite view. The objectives of this course is to help students to obtain the following competencies through reading, presentations and discussion:
1. Knowledge on unique methods and achievement in major fields of epidemiology
2. The capability to thoroughly evaluate scientific reports in a balanced way
3. The capability to make excellent academic presentation
4. Open-mindedness and critical thinking 
課程要求
每堂課簽到,缺課4次(含)以上,給予「不及格」。所有修課同學每週皆需閱讀下週即將討論之論文,或搜尋下週辯論主題相關文獻。每次口頭報告的報告者、評論者之講台表現成績由所內老師共同評分。聽眾則按提問或評論次數加分。辯論部分:由於成員間各人角色不同,無法公平的比較優劣,該次辯論的最終成績原則上以組為單位,該組同學該次辯論分數皆相同(以全組成員個別得分的平均計算),以鼓勵團隊合作精神。碩班同學及博班同學6/22前需繳交自己上台報告的心得,內容應包含學長姐的評論、同學發問內容及老師的講評,以及自己的回應與感想。

學期成績:講台表現55% +課堂參與 (出席狀況+提問或評論次數) 35% +心得報告10%

Attendance is important. Students will fail this course after absenteeism four times. Students must read the papers or debate topic which will be discussed in the next week. Presentation and comment will be scored by all teachers. Students can get extra points by raising questions or comments. The team of debate will be evaluated as a group, rather than by individual performance. All students should upload their term reports before June 22, 2015. The term report should summarize key points of the presentation, comments by the PhD students, questions from audience and the answers, final comments by advisors, and what you have learnt during this class.

Evaluation:
Presentation (Master student) or Comment (PhD students): 55%
Participation (Attendance + Numbers of questions or comments): 35%
Term report: 10%
